At Boxford, we’re always proud to support projects that encourage creativity, innovation and hands-on learning. Recently, we had the opportunity to assist with a fantastic student project by producing a series of laser-cut wooden designs using our Boxford BGL350 CO₂ Laser.
The project involved a class of Year 6 students in County Durham, who worked alongside artist Rachel Eleanor Brook over several months to design and create artworks for sale at Durham Market Place. Funded by Business Durham and produced by This is TICE, the initiative encouraged students to explore how art, craft and enterprise can work together in the real world.
To support the project, we produced a number of beautifully detailed wooden Durham Sanctuary Knocker designs free of charge using the BGL350 laser cutter. The machine’s precision engraving and cutting capabilities made it ideal for creating high-quality decorative pieces that the students could use in their final products.
The BGL350 50W CO₂ Laser is designed to deliver precision, reliability and ease of use for both education and professional workshop environments. Featuring auto-focus, an integrated water cooling system, air assist with built-in compressor, and a honeycomb and knife material bed, the machine is well suited to detailed cutting and engraving applications across a range of non-metal materials.
The programme helped students develop creative thinking, teamwork and entrepreneurial skills as they prepared and sold their work as part of the Future Business Magnates initiative.
Seeing young people engage with design, manufacturing and business in such a practical and inspiring way highlights the value of technology within education and creative industries alike.
A huge well done to all the Year 6 students involved, and thank you to Rachel and the wider project team for allowing us to play a small part in such a positive community initiative.
