Producing Precise Laser Cut Profiles with a Boxford Laser Cutter and Timberite Material

14 Aug '25

The Boxford team has recently produced some laser cut samples using material supplied by Timberite. Using a BGL350 50 W CO₂ laser-cutting and engraving machine, they were able to cut flat profiles from both 3mm and 6mm laser grade plywood to produce parts which make up a 3D wooden chair assembly.

Using the best laser cut plywood ensures a clean, golden brown edge to your laser cuts, as well as producing far less harmful toxins and most importantly flames. Standard plywood you would find on the shelf at your local hardware store, for example, contains a different kind of glue which holds the layers of the plywood together. This produces more toxins and also leaves the material with a charred, black edge, which is not only unsightly, but leaves a residue which is hard to clean.

When laser cutting flat pieces which need to slot together to produce a 3D part, it is vitally important that the cutting tolerances are highly accurate, to ensure a nice tight fit. The Boxford BGL 350 was more than up to the task, producing parts within tolerance, which were able to slot together with ease!

When laser cutting plywood, the laser beam applies no force to the material, which means you can simply lay the sheet material on the laser bed, without the need for clamping, unlike more traditional methods of cutting, such as using a CNC router.

Boxford laser cutters not only give you precise laser cutting capability, but they can also produce high-definition engraving, allowing you to add logos, decorative designs, or even photographs to your work.

Included as standard with auto-focus, integrated chiller, integrated air assist and even a 4K artwork positioning and image tracing camera, Boxford laser cutters are compact, fully self contained, safe and incredibly easy to use.

The entire Boxford BGL range of laser cutters and engravers are supplied with Lightburn laser software as standard, which is intuitive and easy to learn, making the learning curve when buying your first laser cutter, or a new brand of laser cutter far less steep.
